Most Popular Colors in 2020

According to Pantone, the so-called flame scarlet, a fiery red, symbolizes drive and confidence. We can’t help but agree considering its appearance on the attention-grabbing dresses and gowns we saw on runways the world over. Another fiery trend is orange peel, which is fun and tangy without being loud like neon orange. Prada combined it skillfully with mint green, another major color trend we can expect in 2020. Like the eponymous herb, saffron has a lively and vibrant golden color that we saw on dresses and gowns everywhere.

Of subdued popular colors, the most notable are denim blue, chive, cinnamon stick, and Biscay green. Fans of sweet and gentle colors won’t be disappointed because sunlight and coral pink will be in style.

The Essence of the Colors

We’ve categorized the trendiest 2020 spring/summer colors in three main groups: bold and vibrant, dainty pastels, and muted, subdued hues.

Bold and Vibrant

In this category, flame scarlet and saffron deserve special mention.

Flame Scarlet

Bright, bold, vibrant, and energetic, this color exudes determination and makes an indisputably powerful statement. On the runway, we saw gowns in this color by Tory Burch among other notable designers.

Saffron

This is a shade of yellow between golden and mustard, gravitating toward the former. Cinched dotted dresses in this color stood out on the runways. The vivid shade will give any outfit a bold touch, even more so if you dare to choose a full-length gown in saffron with statement accessories to match. Designers favoring this color for 2020 include Balenciaga and Sally Lapointe.

Dainty Pastels

In this group, the most remarkable hue was sunlight, a warm and sunny yellow color. Others were coral pink and, of course, white.

Sunlight

This pale, yet sunny yellow evokes joy and pleasant cheer. It is an easy, calm way to approach color. New York Dress has enthralling V-neck fitted fringe dresses in this tone by Sherri Hill. The long sheath dresses are decorated with glowing beads. There is a characteristic plunging V-neckline, a racy cutout back, and long sleeves. Bead fringes add the quintessential touch, lending your look opulent sparkle.

Coral Pink

Coral pink runs the gamut from joyous and gentle to mature and sultry. Brandon Maxwell’s long satin slips stood out on the runways. Gowns in coral by Christopher Kane and Tory Burch didn’t fail to make an impression. The color combines the soothing power of coral with the elegance and delicacy of pink. This calming, feminine hue is perfect for evening gowns, especially in silk, tulle, and other textured fabrics.

Speaking of tulle, New York Dress has lace-embroidered A-line gowns by Colors Dress in this fabric and in this hot color. The gowns are decorated with lace embroidery, featuring a sculpted bodice with strapless sweetheart neckline and a racy open back. The pleated skirt flows down to full length, augmented by embroideries down the waist.

White

S/S 20 runways abounded with white, varying in shades from bright, brilliant white to more subtle hues like egg white and oyster mushroom. In 2020, you can’t go wrong with white in any fabric from lace to silk and satin. Givenchy and Isabel Marant’s gorgeous, full-length white gowns dazzled on runways across the globe.

If white is your favorite color and you’re looking for a statement gown for the prom or another big event, look no farther than our exquisite sheer appliqué bodice gown with side slit in brilliant white by Portia and Scarlett. Crafted entirely in mesh and submerged in glitter, this sweet, romantic work of art is embellished in 3D floral appliqués. A fitted skirt flows from the flattering waistline. The overall design is brought together by a sizzling thigh high slit.

Glamorous, Muted, Trendy Tones

Our last group includes cool Biscay green, classic denim blue, exotic tones like cinnamon stick and chive, and a specter of warm, earthy brown tones like chocolate and mahogany.

Biscay Green

Lime green and pistachio were the colors of fall 2019. Pistachio’s close cousin Biscay green, a highly coveted minty green named after the Spanish bay, will rule the spring and summer of 2020. The refreshing, cool aqua shade unexpectedly dominated the runways. For a lovely spring look, combine it with coral pink. Victoria Beckham, Balenciaga, and Jovani are fans of the color.

New York Dress carries stunning V-neckline sheath gowns from JVN by Jovani in Biscay green. The elegant, silky sheath gowns feature sculpted bodices with V-necklines and draped details drawing attention to curves. The sheath skirt cascades down to the floor, ending in a majestic sweep train.

Blue Denim

The reliable, super-versatile blue shade is back. It conveys ease and comfort and will look chic combined with a vibrant color of your choice. We saw gowns and dresses in this color by Sies Marjan Mugler, Victor Virgile, and Carolina Herrera on the runways.

Sleeveless evening gowns with sheer upper back by Jovani are available from New York Dress. Plunging V-necklines sizzle front and center, while the sheer upper back and sides add eye-catching accents. Sleek lines sculpt the bust, waist and hips.

Cinnamon Stick

New York Dress carries glamorous evening gowns in this earthy, burnt-orange hue. Jovani features exquisite full-length evening gowns with sweetheart necklines, spaghetti straps, and flowy, pleated A-line skirts.

Chive

Last but not least, designers like Givenchy and Kate Spade embraced chive, a dark, rich, herbaceous shade of green, on spring and summer 2020 runways.

We hope you’re as delighted by the hot new colors as we are. Here’s to another year of quality fashion and unforgettable moments.
